Five Skincare Routine to Stop Blackheads Formation

Blackheads are one of the top skin concerns of many individuals. Dermatologists categorize it as a mild type of acne that usually forms on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, back, and arms. Exposure to dirt, pollutants, and too much oil are only some of the factors that cause blackheads.

Blackheads are easy to spot. Although they are not painful, unlike acne, however, it looks unsightly on the face. To fight blackhead formation, you need to follow a correct skincare routine. Below is a list of basic skincare habits you must practice.

#1 Regular Facial Cleansing

Remember that blackheads stem from dirt, oil, and dead skin cells clogging the hair follicles. Washing your face helps in removing dirt, and other impurities stuck on your pores. Do this every morning and before going to bed at night regularly.

When washing your face, use organic facial foam or scrubs instead of regular soap. Experts also advise using lukewarm water when washing the face since it opens up the pores and makes it easier to remove dirt.

#2 Exfoliate 

Exfoliate your face at least twice a week. Exfoliating removes the dead skin cells and sebum plugging the pores. However, take note that some of these products might contain strong compounds that are harsh for your skin. As much as possible, look for organic exfoliators, or you can make one at home.

An example of a homemade exfoliator is baking soda paste. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with water. Continue to mix until it turns into a thick paste. Apply the mixture on your face focusing on the affected area. Gently scrub the paste and leave it for five minutes. Rinse it with lukewarm water.

#3 Facial Steaming

Facial steaming is another effective procedure to get rid of blackheads and stop its formation. You can either buy a facial steamer for home use or make one.

For DIY facial steaming, all you need to do is prepare 6 cups of water and boil it in a large pot. You can add herbs for aromatherapy. Transfer the water into a bowl and set the bowl on a table. Place a towel over the bowl to avoid the steam from directly hitting your face. Bend over the bowl and leave at eight inches between your face and steam. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes.

#4 Be Gentle On Your Skin

Never use cosmetic and skincare products with strong chemicals. As much as possible, buy organic skincare products that is suitable for your skin condition. Salicylic acid and retinoid are the top options when it comes to dissolving blackheads. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for help from a dermatologist.

#5 Drink a Lot of Water

Drinking plenty of water keeps your skin surface hydrated and blocks oil from clogging the pores. Avoid fatty foods, for it increases your chances of having blackheads and pimples.
