Beginner’s Guide to Growing Safe Magic Mushroom at Home
Are you considering growing magic mushrooms at home but do not know where to start? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
What is Magic Mushroom?
Magic mushrooms are fungi that contain a psychoactive compound, known as psilocybin. Consuming the mushroom will cause a person to experience a trip. Tripping can do both good and bad, which is one of the reasons why magic mushroom is under Schedule 1 Substance, making it illegal in several places.
And if you are planning to grow magic mushrooms at home, make sure it is legally okay to do so. Also, here are some tips on how to grow mushrooms:
Tip #1: Know which variety you should grow
Before picking any shroom to grow indoors, you need to decide what species and or strain of magic shroom is easy to grow for beginners. There is a wide range of magic mushrooms to choose from. However, if it is your first time growing one, you may want to consider Psilocybe cubensis B+ or Golden Teacher mushrooms. These shrooms are less potent, and they can strive in sub-optimal places or with changeable conditions.
Also, when buying magic mushrooms to grow, it is more economical and convenient to purchase shrooms with a complete growing kit.
Tip #2: Check the instructions
If you are growing magic shrooms using grow kit, you should check the instructions first; not all growing kits have similar growing procedures. Just make sure three things when setting up your growing kit at home:
- Place the kit inside a plastic bag, but provide ventilation.
- Place the kit in an area where there’s enough daylight. However, make sure not to place it under direct sunlight.
- Place the grow kit in an area with its ideal room temperature.
Also, make sure not to spray water directly into the shroom. Instead, spray water inside the bag; this will enable good moisture for the growing shroom.
Tip #3: Be patient
Growing magic mushrooms is easy, but it requires patience. There are grow kits that will a little later than the other, but they all eventually will grow. Typically, between 1-3 weeks, you will find pinheads growing; at this point, stop spraying water.
However, if no pinheads are growing in the kit within the expected dates, you have to do the following:
- Take out the mycelium cake or the form-fitted block inside the plastic box.
- Pour enough tap water at room temperature into the mycelium.
- Place the mycelium cake inside a plastic bag. Placing the cake out of the plastic box will enable the shroom to grow on all sides.
- Close and fold the plastic bag but make sure to create micro-holes for its ventilation system.
Tip #4: Open the plastic bag when it is the right time
If you see pinheads have grown more than 3cm, you need to slightly open the plastic bag to release the moisture inside the bag. Remember, too much moisture is bad for the maturing shrooms.
Tip #5: Harvest if it is the right time
If the shroom’s caps are still closed but are on the verge of bursting, you may start harvesting the magic shrooms. Gently harvest the shroom to avoid damaging the kit; it is still reusable for the 2nd to 4th harvest. To harvest, gently grab the stem. Turn the stem to the left, to the right, and then gently pull the stem.
